Wow! That Tastes Good
In the world we live and the advertisement that perpetuates everything, it seems we are to do what feels good. Everything abounds everywhere and the commercial world is trying to benefit from it. I am here to say something a little different.
What feels good today may not tomorrow. We eat and we eat and enjoy everything. Pretty soon we put on a little extra weight. Eh, we'd like to slim down a little but it tastes so good. So, we continue and life goes on. Let us think for one moment. If a person just gains one ounce per week, that comes to 3 and 1/4 pounds per year and after thirty years they are carrying an extra 97 and ½ pounds around. Is it any wonder so many are over weight? Yet, this is not the root of the problem. It goes far deeper than that. The problem is called addiction. It is food addiction. It is just as the drug addict or the person who is bound by smoking. They are addicts and food is no different. Many, many people are bound by food and addicted to it. Most do not even realize it. Food addiction is not a term you will hear today but that is what it is. That is why when a person goes on a diet, they struggle so because their help (food) or prop has been taken or limited in ways they do not like and so as soon as they can (or just plain give up) they return to their old habits and so the weight struggle continues yet they struggle and are torn between what they know they should do and yet love what they are addicted to just as any addict is or does. You see, the problem is not the weight even though most focus on that as the problem. The problem is the love for the thing that puts on the weight....food. It is the addiction which is perpetuated by habit and love of that which puts on the extra weight.
On the lighter side and the side of help, there is only one way to break the addiction. First, one must realize they are addicted to food just as any addict must do. If one is willing to admit their addiction, they can then purpose to change and find rest from the problem. That takes a change of the mind in which one must realize that their habit of over-eating will eventually destroy them in some form but usually very slowly year by year. It takes years of over work of the body's digestive system and the organs to wreak havoc as heart disease, diabetes, joint discomfort and so forth to name a few. Many many problems with the body come about as the result of excess weight caused by excess eating. As a person realizes this, they can change their attitude toward excess eating that produces excess weight....why, you ask? Because no one wants to be destroyed or suffer as the result when it is in their power to alleviate it. At this point, a person should realize the excess they eat is hurting them over time and will certainly show up in life at some time and they will suffer or die. We all will die, but why die sick when we can die healthy? This causes an attitude change and so they can walk away from the excess and with time and persistence develop a new and wholesome habit of not over-eating and eventually the weight will slowly dissipate and so one slims down on a slow and steady basis. The wow! that tastes good will still be there because it is from the Creator to sustain us but control will and can now be exercised because the body and mind realize what is good for it.
There are a few exceptions to the above as food addiction but they are minimal. There are things that may be out of balance physically that cause over-eating and that takes a doctor to determine. A person should see their doctor and ensure their body is functioning properly. If so, consider, you're problem may be nothing more than a love affair with food which is what any addiction really is all about generated by the substance one seeks for satisfaction. Let your satisfaction be that change of mind toward food and heal the body from excess weight and many problems which come about as the result. Let that satisfaction generate your love for life and health and set the love of food on the back corner yet enjoy its benefits to provide a healthy life for us when we use it rightly. Good luck and God bless on your quest from bondage to freedom and a healthy life as the benefit as it was meant to be.
