Matter of Wills

Everyone has a will just as God has a will if we are created in His image. The will is the factor in which each person has a right to determine what they will choose. Yet is it possible that our wills are influenced by God, the Creator in some way or ways at various times and places? Let us think and look into the matter of wills and make a determination simply by the power of thought and reasoning.

First, if God is the Creator of all that exists as it states in Colossians 4:16 and 17, "For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist," then reasoning and common sense would tell us God would have the ability to alter, modify or influence what He has created at His will so long as He follows the rules of creation as He has established. If all things are in His power, then all things are under His influence. Would a Creator not reserve the right of influence for the good of the whole if He is a righteous and just Creator? Of course He would, just for the sake of preservation of that which is loved and for the good of the loved. You see, God is supreme and without counsel except for the counsel He established through the establishment of truth which rules all things including Himself, thus truth prevails. The moment God would allow anything else to rule other than truth, he would be divided against Himself and thus be brought down by His own counsel. Back to influence, we can rationally reason God as supreme has the power to influence any and all at any time if the necessity exists to preserve the creation for the sake of truth so as to preserve the Universe which is for the good of the creation.

We next must ask how He can exercise His will over man's will without being dictatorial or violating the right of the will to choose. It is quite simple. It is as a child who parents watch over and guide for the good of the child all the while teaching and influencing the will of the child through knowledge and understanding. The heart of every man is the dwelling place of God through the power of life placed in the mind and body of each individual. That mind can be influenced by one word (or more) at any time to guide or direct a person for the good of the individual which will direct or influence the will of the individual. It is just as a small child who lacks knowledge yet the parent guides with words and actions to influence the child. So it is with God and man individually and collectively. In plain words our will is influenced by God's will for the good of each or all based on God's past, present and foreknowledge. It is He who has the right to influence man to accomplish good for the Universe and all therein because He has all knowledge from the beginning to the eternal and so He is right in influence and influencing.

That brings us to another issue of the matter of wills which is that God as the Creator has created all things even us. We are subjects of God and so we are subject to God yet it all comes through the matter of wills. Since we are the subjects of God it is only right that God should work His will through our will without violating our will to perform His will since a Creator is only just in having the right to influence the creation He has made through past, present and foreknowledge for sake of truth and preservation of the whole or the Universe. This too is a work of God that goes beyond the everyday thought as we view our Maker. Let us see His mighty work in guiding each and all for the good of the Universe and each piece of the creation He holds in His hand at any and every moment in time.
