Kitchen

  • Kitchen
These kitchen cabinets and counter are located on the north wall. The ceramic was chosen for the counter since hot pans, etc. can be placed on the tile without damage and it is next to the cookstove (not shown). It was a matter of convenience. The other comment here is this. The cabinets seen are the base or ones obviously mounted on the floor. We chose to put drawers here rather than shelves with doors so as to utilize the space. A great deal of space is lost with shelves and doors. On the south side (not shown) however we installed doors and shelves to accommodate the storage of larger items. The drawers provided almost eliminate any lost space. One of the top drawers has become a great bread box.
  • Lower Cabinets
The wall cabinets are the ones mounted above the base cabinet with drawers on the north wall. My brother built all of the cabinets and we installed. He did a fine job building the cabinets. Note also the window between the counter and upper cabinets. This is a commercial double pane window which we obtained at a wholesale outlet for six dollars. I built the frame and set in the wall. Windows do not come any cheaper than that unless you get them for nothing which in some cases we did. Literally thousands to tens of thousands of dollars are spent on windows in a house.
  • Upper Cabinets
This picture shows a view of the kitchen. The sink is a deep sink to accommodate the needs of the wife. The sink is located in the south side of the kitchen which is opposite the other shots of the kitchen cabinets on the north side. The south side lower cabinets have doors with shelves as opposed to the north lower cabinets having drawers shown previously in another picture
